Simplicity Is King

Try to create an advertisement that can be understood within two seconds of someone looking at it. Advertisements that are overly complicated, either by too many images or too many words won’t get noticed or make a lasting impression. You need an ad that can hit your viewer the moment they see it.

  • Few words – try to aim for 7 words or less
  • Simple message – avoid large words that are difficult to read or understand
  • Few images – avoid using more than two images in a single ad
  • Simple images – avoid using images that are not quickly recognizable
  • Simple colors – keep your colors bold and high contrast
  • Simple fonts – overly fancy fonts are difficult to read, so try to keep your fonts simple and bold

Be Bold

You can use humor, beauty, surprise, or intrigue to make your message impact your viewers. You want to create something that your viewers will remember and seek you out!

Ask for Input

Your friends and family are a great resource! Use them. Ask as many people as possible for honest and constructive feedback and don’t take criticism personally – they’re your friends, they want to help! Most people are generally really good at telling you if they don’t like something, but it’s sometimes hard for people to identify what might improve an ad. If this happens to you, try experimenting! Try different things and see what your audience prefers.
